Strong World is the tenth feature film in the One Piece franchise. It is the first film to additionally star Chō as Brook. It was released December 12, 2009.^[40] This film has a prequel in the manga showing the origins of Shiki and was published in an issue of Shonen Jump. This is the first film Eiichiro Oda personally wrote, in celebration of the tenth anniversary of the anime series.

The story takes place just after the "Thriller Bark" anime storyline. It is also Brook's first film appearance as a Straw Hat Pirate. The plot involves the East Blue under siege by a ruthless pirate named Shiki.

Plot

The film begins with Vice Admiral Garp and Fleet Admiral Sengoku witnessing Shiki's ship floating in the sky overhead. Shiki gives a warning signal to the Marines by using his Devil Fruit powers to destroy the marine vessels. On a floating island, Luffy is chased by a genetically-enhanced animal. The monster is overcome by another, which in turn battles another several times until Luffy finally defeats the third monster. The Straw Hats have been separated: Sanji with Usopp, Zoro with Chopper, and finally Robin, Franky, and Brook together who are all encountering similar animals.

Nami, meanwhile, is swimming in a large swimming pool. Shiki reveals that she has been taken to this place against her will and a brief flashback is shown: several days earlier, the Straw Hats read news of an attack on East Blue. Luffy vows to protect the East Blue and attempts to warn them, but Shiki unknowingly records the warning. Shiki meets Nami and reveals his powers to make any inanimate object he touches float. After learning it was Nami that delivered the warning, Shiki offers to take them there before escaping with Nami. The others try to rescue her, but Shiki makes the pirates scatter on the island.

Shiki asks Nami to become his navigator but she refuses. Dr. Indigo appears with an 'evolved' bird, called Billy, that can use electricity, demonstrating it to Shiki, but after being electrocuted by it, Shiki rejects it. It is explained that a plant here, called IQ, can cause animals to evolve instantly and to increase strength along the way. Nami protects Billy, and the bird is left with her as Shiki and his men leave. Meanwhile, Sanji and Usopp battle various animals while Sanji searches for Robin and Nami. Meanwhile, Zoro and Chopper rescue a young girl, Xiao, and are lead to her village and are told about the large poisonous plants around the village. However, long term exposure to the plants is poisonous to humans, and the girl's grandmother has become ill by it. Xiao was looking for the cure which is the IQ plant, but Shiki has stolen the IQ plants for his experiments. Sanji and Usopp learn that Shiki also takes all the men and young women to his royal palace, leaving the village with only the very young and old, before meeting up with Zoro and Chopper.

Nami manages to escape her captivity with the help of Billy, and finds the Thousand Sunny before Luffy arrives. After talking about what had happened, they use Billy to fly to the others. Robin's group, meanwhile, learn that Shiki is planning to release the animals on the island into East Blue to force the surrender of the World Government. They also learn that to demonstrate the power of the animals he is planning a demonstration against a village on the floating island. The two join the others at the village, and they also learn of the plan from the village residents. Shiki, in an attempt to capture her, confronts and defeats the Straw Hats. Nami is forced to rejoin Shiki at the cost of her village. Nami records a message, using the tone dial, which is supposed to be a farewell message. Robin's group arrives shortly after and rejoin the rest of the crew. Xiao gives them the dial for them to hear Nami's message, causing Luffy to be angered.

Shiki finds that Nami is attempting to destroy the plants protecting his palace, but was overcome by the poison. Shiki traps her near the plants and heads off to meet the pirate captains gathering. While greeting them, the Straw Hats burst into the palace and engages Shiki and his henchmen. The group manages to defeat them while Chopper and Usopp are ordered to search for Nami. Nami is found by Billy who helps destroy the plants just as Usopp and Chopper arrive. Chopper soon realizes the only way to save Nami is to find the IQ medicine, but Shiki attempts to stop them. However, Luffy engages him in a duel. The two find the IQ plant, but find the medicine is being held by Dr. Indigo. Zoro manages to defeat Dr. Indigo and Nami recovers. Sanji and Brook, meanwhile, witness another of Shiki's henchmen, Scarlet, attempting to kiss an unconscious Robin. Sanji defeats him, but Brook ends up receiving Robin's thanks when he catches her.

Luffy is getting brutally outmatched by Shiki when he receives a storm warning from his Transponder Snail, asking him to redirect the island. The call was in fact coerced by Usopp and Chopper, and that Nami has lead them directly into the storm. Upon realizing this, the remaining pirates retreat, while the Straw Hats rig the palace with explosives. Shiki returns to the palace and confronts them, but Luffy uses an electric charge and releases his attack, defeating Shiki. The other Straw Hats escape using the Thousand Sunny, using Shiki's pirate sail as a parachute. Luffy is recovered by Billy while the villagers are shown flying away using the wings on their arms. While they descend to the ocean it is revealed that on the other half of the message, Nami in fact asked them to save her. At the end of the film, the Marines capture the retreating pirates, including Shiki, and witnessing the islands crash into the sea, now free of Shiki's power. The Thousand Sunny is seen in the sky and they prepare to attack it. Back at Marine Headquarters, Sengoku comments that the Straw Hats were the ones to deal with this, and the Marines did nothing.

A second film, Gurren Lagann The Movie: The Lights in the Sky are Stars (劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 螺巌篇 Gekijōban Tengen Toppa Guren Ragan Ragan Hen?, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann The Movie: The Spiral Stone Chapter) was released in Japanese theaters on April 25, 2009.[8] The Japanese DVD for The Lights in the Sky are Stars was released on January 27, 2010. Aniplex of America will distribute both films on DVD in regular and special editions. Childhood's End will be released on July 1, 2010 while The Lights in the Sky are Stars will be released on July 30, 2010.

An animated film entitled Gurren Lagann The Movie: Childhood's End (劇場版 天元突破グレンラガン 紅蓮篇 Gekijōban Tengen Toppa Guren Ragan Guren Hen?, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann The Movie: The Crimson Lotus Chapter), once again directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, and written by Kazuki Nakashima, was produced by Gainax and released on September 6, 2008 in Japanese theaters and the DVD was released on April 22, 2009.[14][15][16] The film is a compilation of the events of the first arc of the series (episodes one through fifteen) with around 20 minutes of newly animated scenes. In conjunction with the release of the film, Gainax has released series of music videos entitled Gurren Lagann Parallel Works which contains alternative stories of Gurren Lagann set to songs from the original soundtrack.[17] The film had its first official English release at the Viz Pictures cinema in San Francisco, California on September 8, 2009.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a 2010 fantasy-adventure film written by Jordan Mechner, Boaz Yakin, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard; directed by Mike Newell; and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The film is heavily based on the 2003 video game of the same name, developed and released by Ubisoft Montreal.

The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan, Gemma Arterton as Princess Tamina, Ben Kingsley as Nizam, and Alfred Molina as Sheik Amar.

Despite the film having the same title as and being primarily based on the video game Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, elements from Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, two other titles from the Prince of Persia video game franchise, are also incorporated.

Plot

The plot follows Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal, an orphan in Persia (Iran), historically in the Persian Empire in the sixth century. After showing courage in the market place, he is adopted by the king. Fifteen years later, Dastan, and his royal blooded foster brothers Garsiv and Tus lead the Persian army in an attack on the sacred city of Alamut, under the assumption that the city's people are selling weapons to their enemies, as shown by Nizam (Ben Kingsley), the King's brother and adviser. As Garsiv leads the initial assault, Dastan decides to lead a surprise attack with his friend Bis (Reece Ritchie) against the orders of his brother. He manages to open the eastern gate of Alamut and prevents further casualties.[3] During the fight in the city, Dastan defeats one of Princess Tamina's (Gemma Arterton) guards who was in the possession of the mythical Dagger of Time. The dagger gives its owner the ability to go back in time for a short period so that the user can try to correct any mistake or redo any moment. Alamut falls to the Persians, Tamina is captured and is offered as a wife for Tus, which would make the city of Alamut a part of the Persian Empire.

The Persians celebrate their victory, but during the celebration Prince Dastan is fooled into presenting a poisoned gown — seemingly given to him by Tus — to King Sharaman (Ronald Pickup), which fatally burns the king. Prince Dastan is held as the perpetrator of his father's murder. He escapes the castle with Princess Tamina. Together, they embark on a journey — the Prince wants to prove his innocence, while Tamina wants to safeguard the Dagger of Time. On the first night, Tamina attempts to kill the prince and recover the dagger, but Dastan accidentally activates the dagger and learns about its ability to rewind time for one minute and in doing so, prevents Tamina from attacking. Dastan believes that Tus knew about the dagger and framed Dastan for their father's murder in an attempt to seize the throne and the dagger which he can use in wars to reverse any military mistake, thus becoming the most powerful ruler of Persia.

During their journey, the duo meets a group of merchant-bandits, in the valley of slaves, including entrepreneur and ostrich racing-organizer Sheik Amar (Alfred Molina) with his friend Seso (Steve Toussaint) who hails from the Ngbaka, masters of the throwing knives. Dastan offers Tamina up as a slave in return for their hospitality. However, the bandits try to take the Dagger of Time and take Dastan whom they recognised as the runaway prince to the newly crowned Tus because of the huge reward for his capture; they fail in the process, while the two escape.

Dastan and Tamina return to Persia for King Sharaman's funeral. Dastan wants to convince his uncle Nizam in whom he has a complete faith that he was not the perpetrator of his father's death and tell him about the true motive for the attack on Alamut, only to discover the dagger was taken by Tamina. Instead, he notices the burns on Nizam's hands, which give Dastan the hint that he was the one who set up the murder of the King. Furthermore, Nizam has set up an ambush for Dastan along the Persian streets, and after a conflict with his brother Garsiv, Dastan escapes.

Dastan catches up with Tamina and explains that the villainous brother of the King, Nizam[4] was behind it all. The attack of Alamut was based on false allegations provided by Nizam and promoted with a motive to attain the Dagger of Time and use it with the massive Sandglass, which is hidden under the city of Alamut. This way, Nizam would go back in time before he had saved Sharaman from being attacked by a lion and undo the act, hence ensure that he becomes the King of Persia. However, Tamina reveals that the Sandglass is the vessel holding the Sands of Time, which the Gods conjured to punish humanity for its sins. A pure hearted girl, offering her life, convinced them to seal the sands; should the Dagger of Time be used to pierce the Sandglass, the sands would be released and destroy the entire world. The holder of the dagger may also turn back time as far as they please. The pair then put aside their differences and agree to work together to protect the dagger.

Meanwhile, back in Persia, Nizam, aware that Dastan knows the truth, tries to convince the newly-crowned King Tus and Garsiv that Dastan is trying to overthrow them and must be killed without a trial to avoid a rebellion. When this fails, Nizam hires the Hassansins, a group of highly-skilled warriors who once served as hired killers for Persian royalty. Nizam had kept the sect hidden for his own ends after Sharaman had them disbanded.

Dastan and Tamina are again captured by Sheik Amar, Seso, and their group because of the chaos they caused back at the valley. Sheik intends to claim the reward for turning them in to renew his business. But that night, when everyone is asleep, the Hassansin leader (Gísli Örn Garðarsson) attacks the group in an oasis by controlling a number of vipers. Many of the group die, but Dastan uses the dagger to rewind time, and, foreseeing the attack, manages to kill all the snakes single-handedly, saving Seso in the process. The Hassansin leader then leaves in a sand dervish.

The next day, the pair, now accompanied by Sheik and Seso, travel to the secret sanctuary in the mountains near India, where it's possible to seal the dagger by returning it to the stone where it came from. In order to do so, Tamina would have to sacrifice herself, but it fails as they run into Garsiv's men. Dastan, however, manages to persuade his brother that he is innocent, only for Garsiv to be killed by a flurry of spike-knives thrown by a Hassansin. The Hassanin attack, killing many of the group, while their leader manages to snatch the Dagger of Time from Tamina (who was knocked unconscious in the battle) by using a trained snake. However, Dastan is saved from the last Hassansin by Garsiv, who then succumbs to his injuries.

Tamina and Dastan, as well as Sheik Amar and Seso, return to Alamut to reveal the truth about Nizam and the dagger to Tus. First, they must get the dagger, which is kept in the sacred temple, guarded by the Hassansin who killed Garsiv. Seso, the master of throwing knives, fights the spike-wielding Hassansin to obtain the dagger. He manages to kill the Hassansin after a well aimed throw, yet is also fatally wounded in the process. Seso manages to throw the Dagger out of the window to Sheik and Dastan before dying. Sheik Amar then distracts the guards by serving as a decoy. In order to convince his brother Tus of the Dagger's power, Dastan kills himself, only to have Tus rewind time with the dagger. Afterward, Tus is killed by Nizam, and Dastan is incapacitated by another Hassansin. The Dagger is once again in Nizam's hands, but Dastan manages to defeat the Hassansin with Tamina's help. She realises that the dead Hassansin had been a spy inside the city of Alamut and must has been the one who told Nizam about the Dagger.

Nizam goes to the Sandglass caves beneath Alamut, as Dastan and Tamina race to stop him. Tamina opens a secret gate leading to the chamber, allowing them to take a short cut to the Sandglass. En route, they encounter the leader of the Hassansins; however, after a close fight, Tamina stabs the Hassansin in the eye with his snake's fangs, allowing Dastan to mortally wound and throw him into the chasm. Dastan and Tamina then kiss. They then manage to reach Nizam before he can pierce the Sandglass with the Dagger. During the final confrontation, Nizam knocks Tamina over the edge of the chasm and Dastan desperately catches her hand. Knowing he cannot stop Nizam and save her, Tamina professes her love for Dastan and lets go, sacrificing herself so Dastan can stop Nizam. Dastan fights Nizam as they both hold their hands on the Dagger. Dastan then uses the Dagger's button to open the Sands of Time container and use its power against Nizam. The Sandglass slowly cracks and the sandstorm is shown destroying Alamut. Dastan is then able to use the Dagger and turn back the time as the Sandglass breaks, ending up at the point when he first held the Dagger during the siege of Alamut.

Dastan uses his knowledge to reveal Nizam's evil plan to his brothers, gaining their acceptance by revealing what Tus told him about the meeting with their father prior to the attack. Exposed, Nizam attempts to kill Dastan, but ends up stabbed and killed by Tus, using his blade. After apologizing for the ransacking of her city, Tus suggests that perhaps Tamina should become Dastan's wife as a sign of good will. The Prince returns the Dagger of Time to her as a gift, as she looks at him surprised. The two of them are next shown talking to each other and Tamina expressing her surprise about Dastan's sudden change in behavior and hinting that he may have discovered something to which he replies that they are in control of their own destiny.

The Transformers: The Movie is an animated feature film based on the original Transformers toyline. It was released in the United States on August 8, 1986.

The film's storyline follows the same continuity as the Transformers cartoon. It introduces a planet-sized Transformer called Unicron who eats other planets, and is approaching Cybertron. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is a 2004 American pulp adventure science fiction film written and directed by Kerry Conran in his directorial debut. The film is set in an alternative 1939 and follows the adventures of Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow), a newspaper reporter for The Chronicle, and Harry Joseph "Joe" Sullivan (Jude Law), known as "Sky Captain", as they track down the mysterious "Dr. Totenkopf" who is seeking to build the 'World of Tomorrow'.

Sky Captain grossed $37.7 million in North America, below its estimated $70 million budget. However, it was marked #1 at the box office and managed to gross $20.1 million in the rest of the world, making its final worldwide tally $57.9 million. Since the overhead of theater and other costs raises the break even point of a film to double its production cost, it lost about $80,000,000. Critical reviews were largely positive and it is notable as one of the first major films (along with Sin City, Able Edwards, Casshern, and Immortal) to be shot entirely on a "digital backlot", blending live actors with computer generated surroundings.

Plot

The film opens in 1939 with the arrival of the zeppelin Hindenburg III in New York City, mooring at the Empire State Building. Before he vanishes, a frightened scientist named Dr. Jorge Vargas (Julian Curry) makes arrangements for a package containing two vials to be delivered to a Dr. Walter Jennings (Trevor Baxter). Polly Perkins (Gwyneth Paltrow), a newspaper reporter for The Chronicle, is looking into the mysterious disappearances of Vargas and five other renowned scientists. She receives a cryptic message, telling her to go to Radio City Music Hall that night. She ignores the warning of her editor, Mr. Paley (Michael Gambon), not to go, and meets Dr. Jennings during a showing of The Wizard of Oz. He tells her that Dr. Totenkopf is coming for him.

Suddenly, air raid sirens go off, heralding the arrival of numerous towering robots that prove all but unstoppable. In desperation, the police call for "Sky Captain" Joe Sullivan (Jude Law), who commands a private air force based in New York, the Flying Legion. While Polly photographs the action from the street, Sullivan knocks out one of the robots and the rest leave. News reports show similar attacks taking place around the globe. The wreckage of the robot is taken back to the Legion's air base so that an expert, Dex Dearborn (Giovanni Ribisi), can examine it. Polly follows, hoping to get information for her story. She and Joe are ex-lovers, who broke up three years earlier in China where Polly was reporting the events and Joe serving with the US Air Force. Since Polly has some useful information, Joe agrees to let her in on the investigation.

Her information takes them to the ransacked laboratory of Dr. Jennings, with the scientist himself near death. The killer, a mysterious woman (Bai Ling), escapes in spite of Joe's efforts. The mortally wounded Jennings gives Polly two vials, which he says are crucial to Dr. Totenkopf's plans. Polly withholds this information from Joe. They return to the Legion's base which comes under attack from squadrons of ornithopter drones. In the ensuing battle, Dex manages to track the origin of the robot control signal but is captured. However, he leaves behind a part of a map marking the location of Totenkopf's base.

Joe and Polly find it and head to Nepal. Venturing into the Himalayas, they discover a long abandoned mining outpost. Two of their guides turn out to be working for Totenkopf, forcing Polly to turn over the vials and then locking them both in a room full of explosives which they light. Joe and Polly escape but are knocked unconscious by the explosion in the mine. They wake up together in the mythical Shangri-La. The monks who live there tell of Totenkopf's enslavement of their people, forcing them to work in the uranium mines. Most of them were killed by the radiation, but the final survivor provides another clue to where Totenkopf is hiding. This leads them to rendezvous with Joe's other ex-flame, Commander Franky Cook (Angelina Jolie), who commands a Royal Navy flying aircraft carrier with amphibious submarine aircraft. Franky clears the way while Joe and Polly make it through.

Joe and Polly find themselves inside the mountainous island, which contains numerous strange creatures, many of which appear to be variations of dinosaurs. They travel to the mountain at the very center of the island and penetrate a secret facility located within. There, they discover that it has been hollowed out into a large silo where robots are seen loading animals, as well as the contents of the mysterious vials onto a large "Noah's Ark" rocket.

Joe and Polly are detected and nearly killed, but Dex, piloting a floating barge, arrives in the nick of time with three of the missing scientists. Escaping together, Dex explains that Totenkopf has given up on humanity and seeks to end the world to begin a new one: the "World of Tomorrow". The vials are revealed to be genetic material for a male and female human: a new Adam and Eve. The group makes its way to Totenkopf's booby-trapped lair, with one of the scientists being incinerated alive by robot defense systems as he attempts to enter, while a holographic image of Totenkopf (Laurence Olivier) also appears before them and speaks to them. After Dex disables the defense systems, the group makes its way inside the lair only to discover Totenkopf's decaying body and that he has, in fact, been dead for two decades; his machines have carried on his work.

The only way to sabotage the rocket is from the inside. Polly tries to tag along, but Joe kisses her and knocks her out with a punch. He then goes to sacrifice himself while the others escape. Polly recovers and follows after Joe, arriving just in time to save him from the mysterious woman who turns out to be a robot. The two then board the rocket just before it launches. Before it reaches an altitude of 100 km, when its second launch stage would fire and incinerate the earth, Polly pushes an emergency release button that ejects all the animals in escape pods. Joe tries to disable the rocket only to be interrupted by the revived female robot. He jolts her with her own electric weapon and then uses it on the controls, disabling the rocket. They use another pod to save themselves after successfully sabotaging the rocket, causing it to explode. Joe and Polly watch the animal pods float down to earth from their escape pod. Polly then uses the last shot on her camera to take a picture of Joe. Joe is touched, but sadly tells her that the lens cap was still on the camera. Polly's look of joy turns to a little light-hearted sadness and disappointment.

SYNOPSIS:

This movie begins with Universal Pictures in reverse and New Line Cinema. Japan 1603, a masked man is seen fighting four samurai on horseback. The samurai eventually defeat the masked man by knocking his katana sword out of his hand and capture him. As the samurai ride off with the man he yells "Mitsu!" just as a mysterious woman emerges from the underbrush. As the samurai ride off with the man one of them takes his sword which had gotten jabbed in a tree.

Fast forward to present day Manhattan (1993). As the samurai on horse back takes the sword the scene switches to a speeding subway train. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are dancing to ZZ Top and each shows his fighting style, in the abandoned subway station which they have made their home. As the dance ends, Raphael throws a sai into the speaker, frustrated that no one appreciates the Turtles or sees what they do. He is contradicted by the arrival of April O'Neil, who has been shopping at a flea market in preparation for her upcoming vacation and brings her friends gifts to cheer them up. Michelangelo is given a colorful lampshade, Donatello is given an old radio, Leonardo is given a book on historical swords and Raphael is to receive a new fedora hat. However, having stormed off earlier, he never formally receives it.

For Splinter, April brings an ancient Japanese scepter. This is possibly a reference to the "Sacred Sands of Time Scepter" featured in the original Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic series and the crossover story featuring Dave Sim's Cerebus character.

In feudal Japan, the man who was taken, Kenshin, is reproached for committing disgrace by his father, Daimyo Norinaga. Angry at the latter, Kenshin leaves his father's presence and drives priests out of a temple. There, he finds the same scepter and reads the inscription on its handle: "Open Wide the Gates of Time". Before Kenshin leaves, a British weapons-trader called Walker is introduced, along with his thug Niles.

In the twentieth century, April is looking at the scepter when it begins to emit light and a small device inside its lamp-like crown begins to spin. She is then sent to Kenshin's time and place, and he to hers, exchanging clothes. Upon arrival, April is captured by the Daimyo's soldiers. Lord Noringa blaming her for Kenshin's disappearance, imprisons her.

The Turtles become friends with Kenshin and decide to travel back in time to retrieve April. They invite Casey Jones to watch over Splinter, then embark, warned by Donatello's calculation that they have only 60 hours wherein to complete the rescue before the scepter ceases to enable time travel due to the time-space continuum being out of sync. Having been sent to Japan in exchange for Daimyo Norinaga's Honor Guards, the Turtles arrive mounted on horses in the midst of a battle. Michelangelo, who is sitting backward on his horse, is separated from his brothers and captured by outlaws. The scepter goes with him and is ultimately seized by an unseen character. The other Turtles search for April. When they reach Norinaga's fortress, presumably by infiltrating his army, they are quickly mistaken for Honor Guards, though they escape from the prospect of facing the Daimyo. They then follow Walker's men to the prison and discover April.

There, the Turtles drive out Walker's assistants, intimidate the jailer, and free April. They leave through a garbage-disposal chute. Escaping behind them is an Englishman called Whit, who is said to have rebelled against Walker, and who bears a strong physical resemblance to Casey (both parts are played by Elias Koteas).

In 20th-century New York, Kenshin is becoming impatient and worried. To placate them, Casey introduces him, and the Honor Guards, to ice hockey. However, this plan comically goes awry when the Guards believe that hockey consists of players beating one another.

An attack on the Turtles, who were again mistaken for the Honor Guards, leads them to Mitsu, leader of the rebellion against Lord Norinaga. Mitsu is a young, beautiful, courageous, and determined woman who intends first to overthrow the Daimyo and later to marry Kenshin so as to prevent another war. It is she who has imprisoned Michelangelo. Mitsu's village is under attack by Walker and his men, who are searching for the scepter; therefore the Turtles rush to intervene. Michelangelo is released by two of Walker's men, who think to earn a reward by restoring one of the Honor Guards confirmed as absent. Having seen his face and heard him speak, they plant the rumor among their partners that a demon is in the vicinity. When confronted by Michelangelo, the other Turtles, and Mitsu's people, Walker flees. Michelangelo saves a boy named Yoshi from a fire, whereupon Leonardo revives the nearly dead child by means of CPR, for which the grateful villagers allow them to stay. Anguished by the loss of the scepter, the Turtles commission a local blacksmith to make a new one.

Walker uses the presence of the Turtles as an excuse to raise the price of guns sold by him to the Daimyo, arguing that the threat posed by demons is greater than the threat posed only by men. Norinaga, during the same conversation, reveals a legend stating that four kappa resembling the Turtles, had vanquished his ancestors, and suggests that they have returned to disgrace him. Although he initially refuses to pay more for the guns than the price originally set, he agrees later. Walker shows himself, in these interactions, to be greedy, manipulative, and without compassion.

Michelangelo tries to teach the village cooks to make pizza, but produces an inedible result. In a later scene, it is shown that he is apparently attracted emotionally to Mitsu; he learns that she wishes to marry Kenshin and reassures her that Kenshin will return when the Turtles have departed. Raphael, meanwhile, fulfills his potential patience and gentleness through the child Yoshi, whose name links him through an unclear means to Splinter's mentor. He becomes very fond of this child and eventually considers him a younger brother.

A new scepter is completed, only to be broken by Michelangelo and Raphael during an argument over whether or not to stay. Mitsu then informs them that Lord Norinaga has guns and will attack the next day. Yoshi, fearing Raphael's death, gives him the original scepter, which he (having apparently been its unseen captor earlier in the film) had hidden under the house where he lives. They are overjoyed to see it, but resent Mitsu for concealing it in order to force them to fight in the war. Mitsu is then kidnapped by Whit, who takes Mitsu and the scepter to Walker.

The Turtles set out to rescue Mitsu. In the process, they learn of the legend that has caused the Daimyo to fear them, regain confidence in themselves, and free many of those imprisoned, leading to a massive battle in the courtyard of Norinaga's palace between the rebels and the daimyo's army. Leonardo defeats Lord Norinaga in a sword duel, comically finishing him by cutting his hair (a disgrace to his status as a samurai), and then trapping him inside of a bell.

Walker, at the end of the battle captures April and threatens to kill her. His soldiers then take control of the battlefield, armed with guns. He orders the Turtles to be shot, whereupon Leonardo bluffs by drawing upon the belief (held insistently by Walker's superstitious men) that he and his brothers are demons, saying that any bullets shot at them will ricochet and kill their senders. Baited by Leonardo to take the shot himself, Walker shoots at them with a cannon, but misses when Leonardo instinctively pulls his head into his shell. April and Whit, also targeted by the cannon (Whit having spoken against Walker's order), duck their own heads to dodge the shot. The cannonball collides with the bell, freeing the shocked but largely unscathed Daimyo.

Walker's soldiers are routed and he himself runs away. He obtains the scepter and a cage containing pet birds from his room, then climbs over the roof of the palace to a high point overlooking the ocean. He is there cornered by the Turtles. To distract them while escaping himself, Walker throws the scepter overhead and begins climbing down a scaffold. The Turtles form a chain with their bodies, holding onto a wall or fence at one end and catching the scepter at the other. Walker, realizing that he has forgotten his birds again, returns to retrieve them, whereupon Whit, realizing that his name is "lower than scum" in the eyes of the desirable April, uses a catapult to kill Walker by knocking him to his death in the ocean.

The Turtles then debate whether or not to go home, wishing to remain on grounds that they are appreciated and respected in feudal Japan, unlike 20th-century New York City where they must hide underground to avoid being targets of human xenophobia. Mitsu urges them to go, so that she may have Kenshin return to her, and makes a parting well-wish to Michelangelo, of whose soft spot for her she is aware and by which she is flattered. The scepter then activates, making their decision urgent. In New York City of the late twentieth century, Kenshin has activated it in his impatience to go home. Splinter counsels him not to abandon the Honor Guards, on the grounds that such an act would be cowardly. Casey gathers the Honor Guards, who have become infatuated with the trappings of their host society, and organizes their return to feudal Japan.

The Turtles ultimately decide to go home, based on the argument that their presence interferes negatively with the lives of the people of feudal Japan. Raphael bids Yoshi an affectionate farewell. As a result of his procrastination, Michelangelo fails to join April and his brothers. When they have returned to their native time, the Honor Guard who had replaced Michelangelo runs away, carrying the scepter. As he exits the Turtles' den, the scepter activates, exchanging him for Michelangelo. Simultaneously, its powers of time travel (symbolized by the rotating device at its head) are destroyed. In Japan, Norinaga is taken prisoner and brought before Mitsu and Kenshin. He is surprised to see them both together, and more surprised to see his Honor Guard walk through the corridor, half naked and talking incoherently about anachronisms. When he has gone, having spoken no word but clearly shown his submission, Kenshin seizes Mitsu in imitation of a poster he had seen in the Turtles' home and kisses her on the lips. Norinaga, presumably is reconciled with his son.

Michelangelo, perhaps thinking on the preceding scene, is depressed until Splinter puts the afore-mentioned lampshade on his (Splinter's) head as a joke, whereupon both laugh. The film ends with another dance sequence by the Turtles.

SYNOPSIS:

At the beginning of the film, Turtles have been forced to live with their friend the news reporter April O'Neil because the Foot Clan know the whereabouts of their lair in the sewers. While the Turtles are looking for a new home, they encounter a pizza delivery boy named Keno, who is trying to fight off a band of robbers by means of his skill as a martial artist, whereupon the Turtles intervene on his behalf. Viewers later see that the Foot Clan, no longer as large as it was in the first film, have retreated to a large junkyard, where Master Tatsu, Shredder's second in command, attempts to take control of the gang, but is challenged by Shredder himself. Shredder was thought to be dead, as a result of falling from a rooftop into a garbage truck's trash compactor after a short battle with Splinter at the end of the first film. He now appears physically deformed and obsessed with obtaining revenge, to achieve which he sends a Foot member to pose as an intern at the news network and trail April.

April is shown making a report on the efforts of an industrial organization known as Techno Global Research Industries (TGRI for short) to neutralize pollutants that have resulted from their experiments. Soon after her interview of him, chief scientist Professor Jordan Perry discovers that toxic waste produced by the company has caused mutation in nearby dandelion plants, producing exponential growth. The Foot member posing as an intern informs Shredder of this, whereupon Shredder proceeds to dispatch the Foot Clan to obtain some of the waste. Splinter, seeing the report on television, shows the Turtles and April the canister of "ooze" that had caused himself and the Turtles to mutate into their present forms, revealing that it was made by the TGRI and evidently contained the same substance that triggered the overgrowth of the afore-mentioned dandelions. The Turtles infiltrate the TGRI offices to seize a sample of the ooze, only to encounter Tatsu and the Foot. Despite the Turtles' efforts to stop them, Tatsu and the Foot escape, taking the last canister of ooze and Professor Jordan Perry with them. Shredder later instructs Perry to use the ooze to transform a snapping turtle and a wolf into monsters, creating the characters Tokka and Rahzar. Perry does this, but because Perry altered the ooze before giving it to Shredder, it does not increase the intelligence of the mutants, making them infantile in intellect. As a result, when Shredder tells them to call him "Master", they misinterpret this and call him "Mama" instead, enraging him. He then orders Tatsu to kill them; however, when he sees a demonstration of their immense strength, he decides to use them as weapons. He releases them into city streets, where they amuse themselves by causing damage and wreaking havoc.

Raphael goes alone to pursue the Foot while the other three Turtles find a new lair in an abandoned subway station. With the assistance of Keno, the Foot headquarters located on Lairdman Island (home to the origin of the Ooze) off the coast of New York City is infiltrated, but Raphael is eventually captured by Shredder. Keno is able to inform the others, who go to save Raphael. After rescuing Raphael and Professor Perry, being themselves aided by Splinter, the Turtles are vanquished in battle by Tokka and Rahzar. Later, Professor Perry explains that the ooze was created as the result of discarded chemicals accidentally combining after being exposed to radiation in a lab accident, sending Donatello into a brief funk before Splinter assures him that he cannot judge his life on how it began, but only on what it is. Learning that Shredder intends to release Tokka and Rahzar into populated areas unless the Turtles confront them, Professor Perry and the Turtles attempt to develop an antidote to the ooze's effects. After creating a successful formula, they trick their enemies into ingesting it by hiding it in doughnuts and appealing to Tokka and Rahzar's hunger. Tokka and Rahzar eat some, but soon discover the antidote and become enraged.

The Turtles find themselves confronting the Shredder's mutants at a nightclub, in full view of every guest and performer. To appease the initial panic, the club's singer Vanilla Ice improvises a rap song whose refrain is "Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go!", which is then sung as background music to the fights taking place in the club. Acting on Perry's advice, the Turtles use fire extinguishers to stimulate a swift activation of the antidote by spraying carbon dioxide into their enemies' throats, accelerating the anti-mutagenic process. The mutation is reversed, reducing the two monsters to their natural forms. The Shredder then arrives at the club and menaces all who are present. To defeat him, the Turtles use a sound amplifier to magnify a single noise produced by a musical instrument, resulting in a powerful sound-wave that throws the Shredder out of the club and into the area among the docks below.

Here, Shredder uses a vial of ooze to become a superior form of himself, extemporaneously called Super-Shredder. While fighting underneath a pier, the Super-Shredder, desperate to destroy the Turtles and heedless of all else- his simple speech pattern of various grunts suggests that his intellect has been reduced as well-, wrecks the structure, bringing it down on himself. The Turtles escape by utilizing their amphibious nature. Then, they note Shredder's hand emerges from the wreckage, but moments later falls down, indicating that he has died.

The Turtles return to their new lair, where Splinter asks whether they were seen. They deny it (insisting that they practice "the art of invisiblity"), until Splinter displays a newspaper having a front-page picture of them, taken at the nightclub where they fought Tokka and Rahzar. Splinter advises them to practice harder, then orders them to perform ten flips each, reminding them with the line "Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go!". The screen freezes as they begin the first flip, whereupon Splinter is heard shouting "I made another funny! Ha ha ha ha!", referring back to the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film where he made the comment that he made a funny at the end of that movie as well.

SYNOPSIS:

As an unsolved crimewave rises in New York City, April O'Neil (Judith Hoag) for Channel 3 Eyewitness News covers the reports and rumors of a mysterious 'Foot Clan' which seems to be the organization that is plaguing the city. Much to the ire of Chief of Police Chief Sterns (Raymond Serra) who refuses to believe that they exist. April is attacked in an alley by a group of punks who are quickly taken down when a weapon flies through the air, knocking out the street light. While police are investigating the attack, April finds the sai responsible for knocking out the street light and takes it. One of the fighters, from the cover of the sewers watches this and curses himself for his bad luck.

While celebrating, the four mutated teenage turtles Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael reunite with their master Splinter to recount their first true battle. In a huff, Raphael leaves to go see a movie. After Raph leaves the theater, he chases muggers into the park and encounters Casey Jones (Elias Koteas), a hockey masked vigilante whose brutal attacks on the muggers forces the turtle to stand up for them. After a brief scuffle, Casey escapes Raph leaving him in a humiliating defeat further fueling his anger. He later comes to April's defense after her belief in the Foot Clan draws a few members out who attack her, knocking her out. Raph retrieves his sai and fights them off, unaware that he leads one of them back to their sewer Den. April revives and after being calmed down is told the story of Splinter and the turtles' origins. After some time there, the turtles lead to her home at 11th and Bleecker Street, her apartment home built on top of her family Antique Store. They spend some time over frozen pizzas telling jokes and stories before they decide they have to head back. Upon their return, the turtles find that their home had been utterly destroyed and their master taken.

With nowhere else to go, the four return to April's apartment and spend the night. Meanwhile, Sterns discovers that April's boss Charles Pennington's (Jay Patterson) son Danny (Michael Turney) is in custody, arrested for trying to steal a car stereo, and uses it as leverage to talk to Pennington about other matters. The following morning, Charles warns April not to press any buttons with Sterns, and Danny becomes suspicious when he thinks he sees the turtles in the apartment. Enroute to his school, Charles and Danny have an argument and Danny runs away, fleeing to a hideout outside of town where many delinquents and punks have gathered over skateboard ramps, arcade games and other personal pleasures. They are joined into a meeting with The Shredder a man in a black cloak and metal mask who urges them to find the turtles. Danny stands out and relinquishes the location he thinks he saw the turtles.

April deliberately disobeys Charles' orders and continues to insult Sterns' competency for the job and ignorance to the fact that the Foot Clan exists. After returning home, April gives the turtles a tour of the shop while Raph, after a heated argument with Leo, goes and practices on the roof. He is spotted by Casey, but only seconds before he is attacked by several Foot Clan members. Brutally beaten, Raph makes a re-entrance to the house through the skylight window and the turtles, joined by Casey fight off many members of the footclan. The building is destroyed, and the group escapes, forcing Tatsu and the Foot to leave. They go to a farm that belongs to April's family, and Casey sparks anger with her when he says he heard Charles' message as they got out of the house that she had been fired for her comments that day. Raph soon recovers from his coma, and the four of them practice until it is time for them to return to New York and find Splinter and reunite their family. Danny meets Splinter and is for the first time in turmoil about his decision to leave his family. Leonardo makes meditative contact with Splinter and for the first time is sure that he is alive. After the four of them each encounter him in a shared vision, they decide to return.

Danny had been living for a few days in the Den and makes formal introductions with the Turtles and Casey. But that night he decides to return to Shredder's hideout and speak with Splinter. Splinter tells him the story of his master Hamato Yoshi being killed by another ninja named Oroku Saki, Danny realizes that the Shredder is Oroku Saki. He overhears Shredder telling Tatsu to have Splinter killed. Danny runs into Casey who followed him and the pair face off against Tatsu. After Casey defeats the ninja master, the three of them express the importance of family before leaving.

Meanwhile the Foot, who had set up an attack against the Turtles at their Den were surprised when they had been ambushed the fight escalates up into the streets above and eventually up on a rooftop where the Turtles finally face off against Shredder. Shredder easily out maneuvers the four of them in combat, though Leonardo eventually wounds him. He later takes Leonardo hostage in a threat to have the Turtles throw their weapons away. As he is about to kill them anyway, Splinter appears and challenges Saki to a fight. Shredder remembers the old rat who he injured years prior and charges him with a lance. Using a nunchaku that the he found, Splinter dangles Shredder precariously over the roof's ledge, in a final attempt to kill Splinter, he throws a a knife at him which Splinter catches. However, the rat's grip on the lance is released and the ninja falls into the back of a garbage truck. Casey "accidentally" throws the switch, crushing him in a compactor. Danny pays April back a $20 bill that he had stolen from her earlier and reunites with his father and insists that he be called "Dan" from then on. Charles then pleads April to cover the story offering her a raise and a corner office without breaking a sweat to her demands. Casey approaches her trying to flatter her before she gets ready for her interview, she tells him to just "shut up and kiss me, I got a report to do" Casey gladly complies. Upstairs, the turtles reunite with their father figure and while trying to come up with a proper word to cheer to, he suggests the phrase "Cowabunga," a catch phrase from their '80s animated series, concluding with the phrase "I made a funny!" and laughing as the credits roll.

An animated adventure centered on a 5-year-old boy and his relationship with a goldfish princess who longs to become human.

Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea is more Totoro than Princess Mononoke. It’s aimed more towards the younger crowd, but still so visually amazing and mindblowing because Ponyo was done completely with traditional hand-drawn animation. Miyazaki proves that 3D animation is never a replacement for 2D, just an alternative. Miyazaki’s consistence as a director and slow, methodical mastering of a genre that he has regularly redefined means that any new material of his is now treated as an event rather than a mere release. But this, and other Miyazaki megahits, are anything but lowest common denominator entertainment. Even though his heroines are usually in their early teens or younger, their adventures unfold in rich visual and narrative sequences, with everything from personal memories and contemporary environmental concerns to ancient Japanese mythologies and fantastic European cityscapes tossed into the mix.

Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea is an enchanting film which tells a beautiful but simple story. The story begins as Ponyo attaches herself to a jellyfish and slowly rises to the surface of the ocean. Ponyo is nearly caught up in a fishing net, and nearly dies when a glass jar gets stuck on her head. Ponyo is rescued by 5 year old Sosuke, who resides on a cliff above the ocean and promises to protect her always. Eventually, Ponyo’s sorcerer father manages to recapture his wayward offspring. But Ponyo, both a willful child and an ungovernable force of nature, rebels against her father’s wishes and dreams of living among humans. She uses the magical powers to transform herself into a human and returns to the surface to seek out Sosuke.


I doubt Ponyo will garner the same acclaim as Spirited Away; but little kids will eat this stuff up. The rich symbolism and the shadowy frisson of threat in, say, Spirited Away is more or less absent from this film. Like I said before, the story is extremely simple. Girl meets boy, girl falls in love with boy (and vice versa), and they try to overcome all odds to stay together. Along the way, Miyazaki dispenses small nuggets of wisdom, just the right size for fidegty kids and jaded adults, without being too preachy.



However, this is another memorable and wondrous film from an animation master who, at age 67, is at the peak of his game. U.S. moviegoers can check out this film in theaters August 14th, 2009. I don’t throw the word “genius” around lightly. With Ponyo, it becomes clear that not only does Miyazaki appear incapable of making a film that is anything less than revelatory, but that as he approaches the old age of 70, he is still making films with the exuberance and passion of a young man. Ponyo, the magical film will definitely cast an indelible imprint in the minds of all who will watch this beautiful creation. Rush to the theaters to see this one.

Little Big Soldier takes place during the Warring States Period of China, and tells the story of three men and a horse.[1] An old foot soldier (Chan) and a young high-ranking general from a rival state (Wang) becomes the only survivors of a ruthless battle. The soldier decides to kidnap the general and brings him back to his own state in hopes for a reward in return.[3]

Plot

On December 1, 2009, a press conference was held for the film, along with Chan's announcement of a new teaser trailer posted on the film's official Sina website. Twitch also released a plot synopsis of the film:[4]“ It was the darkest of times in China, when ruthless warlords waged battles to satiate their endless aggression. Millions of lives perished, and those who survived had only two choices - kill or be killed.

The battalions of warring states Liang and Wei collided in a bloodbath that lasted from dawn until dusk. Only two men were left standing - a foot soldier from Liang and the rival General from Wei. The Soldier survived because he is an expert in playing dead, with a device strapped on his body which protruded like an arrowhead for added realism.

The Soldier captured the wounded General, hoping to use the enemy as his ticket to freedom - by handing the General to the Liang warlord, the Soldier could be honorably discharged and return home to his peaceful life. The young General, though taken captive, was condescending towards the Soldier. The two men were often at loggerheads during the long and winding journey.

Batman Begins was critically and commercially successful. The film opened on June 15, 2005 in the United States and Canada in 3,858 theaters. It grossed $48 million in its opening weekend, eventually grossing $370 million worldwide. The film received an 85% overall approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes. Critics noted that fear was a common theme throughout the film, and remarked that it had a darker tone compared to previous Batman films. A sequel titled The Dark Knight was released in July 2008 and also saw the return of both Nolan and Bale to the franchise. Batman Begins grossed $496,853,783 in both DVD and box office sales.[2]

Plot

The film opens with a scene from Bruce Wayne's childhood; Bruce is playing with his friend Rachel Dawes, daughter of the Bruce's housekeeper, when he falls into a well and encounters a group of bats, triggering a lasting fear of them. In the present day, an adult Bruce languishes in a Chinese prison until he is visited by a man called Henri Ducard who offers that he undergo martial arts training with an elite vigilante group, the League of Shadows (led by the mysterious Ra's al Ghul).

Cutting back to his childhood, the young Bruce Wayne accompanies his parents to a production of The Ring Cycle. The bat creatures in the opera trigger Bruce's fear and he begs to leave, so his parents smuggle him out of the emergency exit where they are murdered by a mugger named Joe Chill. Although Chill is arrested that same night, Bruce blames himself for inadvertedly causing his parents' deaths.

Several years later, Bruce returns to Gotham City from Princeton University, intent on killing Chill, whose prison sentence is being suspended in exchange for testifying against crime boss Carmine Falcone. Rachel, now a law student working at the District Attorney's office, is disgusted with his plan and tells him his father would be ashamed of him. Before he can act, however, one of Falcone's assassins kills Chill. Bruce confronts Falcone, who laughs at him and has his thugs rough him up to teach him a lesson. Bruce decides to travel the world for nearly seven years to understand the criminal mind. Ironically, he is eventually detained for theft of Wayne Enterprises equipment, leading to the detainment Ducard found him in.

In the present, Bruce accepts Ra's offer to join the league and begins ninja training under Ducard. When he passes his final exam, Ra's states that he plans to have Bruce lead his men to destroy Gotham, believing its corrupt state to be beyond saving. As a final test, Bruce is asked to execute a criminal. Bruce refuses, and instead sets the temple on fire in order to escape; Ra's is killed in the ensuing fight and Bruce rescues an unconscious Ducard from the wreckage and leaves him at a nearby village.

Finding Gotham ruled by Carmine Falcone, Bruce quickly plots against the city's corrupt system with the help of Rachel, now an assistant district attorney, and police sergeant Jim Gordon, one of the few good cops left in Gotham. Using resources from Wayne Enterprises, Bruce acquires a prototype armored car and an experimental armored suit and takes up the identity of the Batman. In his first night, he disrupts a drug shipment, and leaves Falcone tied to a searchlight, forming a makeshift Bat-Signal. He also disrupts an assassination attempt on Rachel, leaving her with evidence against a judge on Falcone's payroll. While investigating the drugs in the shipment, Batman encounters Dr. Jonathan Crane, an Arkham Asylum psychiatrist on Falcone's payroll. Crane sprays Batman with a powerful hallucinogen. Bruce's butler Alfred Pennyworth rescues him, using an anti-toxin developed by Lucius Fox, Bruce's ally at Wayne Enterprises, to save him.

In prison, Falcone meets with Crane and demands a bigger share of the profits for smuggling the hallucinogen into Gotham; Crane responds by dosing him with the toxin with a gas mask resembling a scarecrow, rendering him completely insane. Rachel arrives at Arkham to question Crane about Falcone's mental state. Crane shows her that the toxin, which is lethal in vapor form, is being piped into the city's water supply before spraying her with the gas. Batman arrives to rescue her, only to find that the police have swarmed Arkham to arrest Crane. He escapes with Rachel in the Batmobile and, after administering the antidote to her in the Batcave, gives her two vials of it to pass on to Gordon — one for inoculating himself and the other for mass production.

Later at Wayne Manor, Bruce is confronted at his birthday celebration by a group of League of Shadows ninja led by Ducard, who reveals himself to be the real Ra's al Ghul (the man killed earlier was his frontman). Ra's, who had been conspiring with Crane the entire time, plans to destroy Gotham by distributing the toxin via the city's water supply, and vaporizing it with a microwave-emitter stolen from Wayne Enterprises. Bruce dismisses his guests by insulting them while pretending to be drunk, and fights briefly with Ra's while the League lights the Manor on fire and traps Bruce under a beam. At the last minute, Alfred rescues Bruce from the fire and they head to the Batcave. Batman arrives at a Gotham slum called "The Narrows" to aid the police in battling the psychotic criminals that the League has set free from the asylum. Rachel delivers the antidote to Gordon and rescues a small boy from the crowd. She is confronted by Crane, who is now calling himself "Scarecrow", riding a stolen police horse. She tasers him, sending him riding off aimlessly into the crowds. Batman stops Ra's from carrying the microwave-emitter to the city's central water hub at Wayne Tower by having the elevated train tracks collapse, explicitly declining to save Ra's from the resulting crash.

Following the battle, Batman becomes a public hero in Gotham and Bruce gains control of Wayne Enterprises. Newly-promoted Lieutenant Gordon unveils a Bat-Signal for Batman and mentions a new criminal, who leaves Joker playing cards at crime scenes and Batman promises to investigate it. Gordon says he has not thanked Batman for his help; Batman replies he'll never have to, and disappears into the night.

Batman & Robin is a 1997 superhero film directed by Joel Schumacher. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film is a sequel to Batman Forever (1995), with George Clooney replacing Val Kilmer as Batman. Batman & Robin also stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman, Chris O'Donnell, Alicia Silverstone and Michael Gough. The film tells the story of Batman and Robin struggling to keep their relationship together. At the same time, they have to stop Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, and Bane from covering Gotham City with ice and vegetation.

Development for Batman & Robin started immediately after Batman Forever, and Warner Bros. commissioned the film for an adamant June 1997 release. Principal photography began in September 1996 and finished in January 1997, two weeks ahead of the shooting schedule. Batman & Robin was released on June 20, 1997, and was critically panned. Although the film was a financial success, observers criticized the film for its toyetic and camp approach, as well as possible homosexual innuendo added by Schumacher. Batman & Robin received numerous nominations at the Razzie Awards and frequently ranks among the worst superhero films of all time.[2][3] After Warner Bros. canceled the unproduced Batman Triumphant, the film series was eventually rebooted with Batman Begins (2005) by director Christopher Nolan.

Plot

The film begins with Batman (George Clooney) and Robin (Chris O'Donnell) stopping Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from a robbery attempt, but he escapes. In South America, Pamela Isley (Uma Thurman) is working under Dr. Jason Woodrue (John Glover), experimenting with the Venom drug. She witnesses Woodrue use the formula to turn a diminutive convict into a hulking monstrosity dubbed "Bane" (Jeep Swenson). Woodrue and Isley argue over the use of the drug and Woodrue kills her by overturning a shelf of various toxins onto her, which burn a hole in the floor and causes Dr. Isley to sink into the ground. She transforms into the beautiful and seductive Poison Ivy before killing Woodrue with a poison kiss. She finds that Wayne Enterprises funded Woodrue, thus she takes Bane with her to Gotham City. Meanwhile, Alfred Pennyworth's (Michael Gough) niece, Barbara Wilson (Alicia Silverstone), makes a surprise visit and is invited by Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson to stay at Wayne Manor until she goes back to school. Alfred the Butler is in the early stages of a disease called MacGregor's Syndrome, which will eventually kill him. He records a message for his brother who is also a butler to take over from Alfred as the butler to Wayne.

At Mr. Freeze's hideout, he is plotting his next move about how to deal with Batman and Robin. He's also attempting to develop a cure for his wife, who also has MacGregor's Syndrome. She is kept alive through cryogenic freezing until Mr. Freeze can cure her.

Wayne Enterprises presents a new telescope at a press conference interrupted by Isley. She proposes a project that could help the environment, but Bruce declines her offer, as it would kill millions of people. That night, a charity event is held by Wayne Enterprises with special guests, Batman and Robin, and Poison Ivy decides to use her abilities to seduce them. Freeze crashes the party and steals a diamond from the event. However, he is captured and sent to a chamber prison in Arkham Asylum, but escapes with the help of Ivy and Bane. Batman and Robin begin to argue because Ivy's seductive ability.

Poison Ivy decides to ally with Mr. Freeze so that her plan to kill off humanity can be done. After hearing about Mr. Freeze's frozen wife, she disables the power supply to her cryogenic chamber, and blames Batman for it. This galvanizes Mr. Freeze into taking the new telescope and attaching his Freeze Ray to it, which will freeze the earth and wipe out humanity.

Meanwhile, tensions are rising between Batman and Robin. Robin believes that Batman is holding him back, particularly in the way that he is urging him to not pursue Ivy, and demands that he have his own Bat-Signal. Dick also finds out that Barbara has dropped out of college, and has been sneaking out with his motorcycle to participate in late-night races. After rescuing her from a particularly violent race, Barbara tells Dick about Alfred's condition, which he had been keeping secret. Following this, Barbara tries to access a password-protected computer disk that was meant for Alfred's brother, and discovers that Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are Batman and Robin, respectively. She soon finds the Batcave, where a computer simulation of Alfred informs her that he knew that she would eventually find out this secret, and has provided her with her own bat suit. She takes on the persona of Batgirl.

Soon, Poison Ivy builds a "Robin Signal" with the intent of luring Robin into a trap and seducing him. Robin is taken into Poison Ivy's lair and she gives him a poison kiss, but Robin is able to survive the kiss, thanks to a latex guard on his lips. Soon after this, Batman breaks into Poison Ivy's lair, but he and Robin are quickly restrained by Ivy's vines. However, Batgirl soon enters the fray, and she and Ivy fight until Ivy is knocked into a man-eating flower and is knocked out, freeing Batman and Robin.

Batman, Robin and Batgirl decide to go after Freeze together. By the time they get to the telescope where Freeze and Bane are, Gotham is completely frozen. Robin and Batgirl confront Bane and defeat him by disconnecting his venom hose, while Batman and Freeze begin to fight each other, with Batman winning in a cliffhanger battle; Freeze tries to kill Batman by destroying the telescope platform but only succeeds in crushing Bane. Batgirl and Robin unfreeze Gotham and Batman shows Freeze a recording of Ivy during her fight with Batgirl, where she boasts that she had killed Freeze's wife. Freeze is angered by the betrayal and is informed by Batman that his wife is not dead; she is restored in cryogenic slumber and has been moved to Arkham, waiting for him to finish his research. Batman proceeds to ask Freeze for the cure he has created for the first stage of MacGregor's Syndrome, which Alfred has not progressed out of yet. Freeze atones for his crimes by giving him the medicine he had developed.

An insane Ivy is shown imprisoned in Arkham's cold beam plucking the pedals of a flower deciding whether Freeze loves her or loves her not. Freeze walks in and announces "Not!" and that he is her cellmate, swearing to make her life a living hell of winter in revenge for trying to kill his wife. Alfred is cured, and Bruce and Dick agree to let Barbara join their team as Batgirl.

The film had a change in tone compared to the previous installments, more family-friendly, since Warner Bros. considered that the previous film, Batman Returns, underperformed at the box office due to its violence. Production was troubled, with many actors considered for the main roles, and Kilmer entering in conflicts with the rest of the crew. Batman Forever received mixed reviews upon release, but outgrossed Returns with over $336 million worldwide.

Plot

The movie opens with Batman stopping a hostage situation in a bank caused by Two-Face, who had once been Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent until a mobster threw acid in his face, scarring him and creating a split personality, who decides his every move by flipping a coin. Two-Face escapes after defacing Gotham's Statue of Liberty. Later on, Edward Nigma, a researcher at Wayne Enterprises, develops a device to beam television directly to a person's brain; Bruce Wayne rejects the invention, noting that it "raises too many questions". In response, Edward kills his supervisor, makes it look like a suicide, and resigns from his post.

After meeting psychiatrist Dr. Chase Meridian, Bruce invites her to a charity circus event. While there, Two-Face and his henchmen storm the event in an attempt to discover Batman's secret identity, in the process killing a family of acrobats, The Flying Graysons. The youngest member, Dick, survives and throws Two-Face's bomb into the river. Bruce assumes responsibility for Dick and allows him to stay at Wayne Manor. Dick declares his intention to kill Two-Face and avenge his family's murder, and when he discovers Bruce's secret identity as Batman, he insists on becoming his sidekick, "Robin".

Meanwhile, Edward has become obsessed with Bruce, and he begins to leave riddles for him. He decides to become a criminal known as "The Riddler" and become allies with Two-Face. Using his invention that Bruce had rejected earlier, Edward could read and control people's minds, and steal their intelligence quotient. At a business party, Edward discovers Bruce's secret identity. Two-Face then attacks the party and nearly kills Batman, but Robin comes just in time to save his life. However, Two-Face and The Riddler later converge into Wayne Manor. The Riddler enters The Batcave and destroys most of the equipment, and he and Two-Face then kidnap Chase. They also leave Bruce another riddle. Alfred and Bruce together solve the separate clues-they are a number/alphabet riddle which spell "Mr. E" a pun on "Mystery" which is translated into "Enigma" {i.e. Edward Nigma}

After solving the last riddle, Batman and Robin survive the Riddler's sea mines; evil frogmen and anti-aircraft beam and locate the Riddler's Lair, where both are separated upon reaching the island. Robin then encounters Two-Face and manages to beat him to the ground; Two-Face clings on for life, and realizing that he cannot kill him, Robin helps the villain back up. Two-Face gets the upper hand, and captures Robin. Meanwhile, Batman makes his way into the Riddler's lair and meets The Riddler himself; he reveals Robin and Chase as hostages, and gives Batman a choice of saving one hostage, but not the other, showing that he cannot be both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Batman finds a way to save both hostages and destroy the brainwave-collecting device, driving the Riddler mad in the process. Before this he drops Chase and Robin into a pit of water and sharp metal. Once he rescues them and they climb onto a metal ledge, Two-Face appears out of nowhere and flips his coin. Batman throws several other coins in the air, and Two-Face struggles to keep track of his coin, therefore losing his balance and falling into the pit. As he sinks into the pit he catches a coin in his hand and it reads heads-Good Side Up. The Riddler is finally sent to Arkham Asylum, and Chase is asked to consult on his case. The Riddler offers to reveal Batman's true identity to her – raving nonsensically that he is Batman. Chase then meets Bruce Wayne outside and tells him his secret is safe.

Plot

A hideously deformed baby boy is born to a wealthy aristocratic couple, who after a short-lived attempt to cope with their child's unnatural deformity, decide to dispose of the infant into the sewers beneath the Gotham Zoo, where he is found and raised by a group of penguins. Thirty-three years later, business tycoon Max Shreck (Christopher Walken) proposes to build a new power-plant to save Gotham City from a possible power failure in the future, although the Mayor and other city officials question Shreck's motives. Meanwhile, during a public speech from Shreck, a group of rogue circus clowns known as the Red Triangle Gang disrupts the gathering and takes Shreck into the sewers. He is then introduced to the legendary Penguin (Danny DeVito), the deformed boy, now an adult, who blackmails Shreck with incriminating evidence of past crimes into helping him emerge from the sewers to become a public hero. Shreck accepts, planning to use the penguin-man to his own advantage.

Meanwhile, Shreck discovers that his secretary, Selina Kyle (Michelle Pfeiffer), has learned the true nature of his proposed power plant: it will drain and store the power of Gotham City and make a huge profit for the Shreck family. Shreck attempts to kill Selina by pushing her out of the window of the office, but she survives the fall, though unconscious. Mysteriously revived by alley cats, she takes up the mantle of Catwoman, dedicating her life to feminism in an exceedingly aggressive manner. The Penguin, with the help of a Red Triangle acrobat, stages a kidnapping of the Mayor's infant son into the sewers, where the child is subsequently "rescued" by the Penguin. Now a media sensation, Penguin is granted private access into the Hall of Records to discover his parents' identity and learn his real name: Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot. He publicly forgives his now-deceased parents for abandoning him, and wins the sympathy of the public, except for Bruce Wayne (Michael Keaton), who is skeptical of Penguin's heroics and eventually links Cobblepot to several child disappearances over the past few years. Bruce soon realizes that Cobblepot is the leader of the Red Triangle gang and attempts to confront Shreck with his suspicions during an intended business meeting. However, Shreck, who is in on Cobblepot's plans, takes offense at Bruce's accusations, and bluntly dismisses Bruce from his office. Shortly thereafter, Shreck hatches a plan with Cobblepot that would exploit the gang's past crimes to defame the Mayor and propose a recall election, making Cobblepot the ideal replacement candidate. During the next attack by the Red Triangle gang, Catwoman runs into Batman and the Penguin, after having destroyed a part of Shreck's department store. Batman pursues her atop a building, and the two fight. Catwoman overcomes Batman and casually threatens his life while dangling him off a high ledge with her whip. During this opportune moment, Batman attacks her with a concealed chemical vial from his utility belt and pushes her off the building, where she lands safely in a sand-filled truck bed leaving the area.

Catwoman joins forces with the Penguin to devise a plan to frame Batman and destroy him; at the same time, Selina begins a romantic relationship with Bruce Wayne. While Bruce and Selina are together at Wayne manor, an unexpected news bulletin catches their attention in which the beautiful holiday Ice Princess (Cristi Conaway), is abducted, with Batman as the main suspect. Both Selina and Bruce abruptly cancel their evening plans and part ways, unaware that they're both going to the same destination. Bruce, as Batman, heads to rescue the Princess and clear his name, but is met with both the Penguin and Catwoman. The confrontation on the building rooftop ends with the Penguin killing the princess, and the public below believing Batman was responsible. When Batman tries to escape, he discovers that the Batmobile has been sabotaged and that the Penguin has remote control over its operation. During the destructive rampage throughout the city while trying to evade the police, Batman pinpoints the remote transmitter overriding the Batmobile and removes it, all the while recording Cobblepot's callous remarks about the city and the naiveté of its people. Batman narrowly escapes the police and returns to Wayne Manor with the Batmobile nearly destroyed. Penguin seeks to celebrate his victory with Catwoman, but the alliance soon ends when she rebuffs a sexual advance from him, which leads to Penguin dropping her into a Greenhouse below to leave her for dead.

The following day, Bruce Wayne uses his radio machinery at the Batcave, to interrupt Cobblepot's campaign speech and play back the harsh, subversive statements made about Gotham, revealing Cobblepot's treachery. After hearing the recording, the crowd heckles and condemns Cobblepot forcing him to retreat to the sewers after Shreck also abandons him. Enraged, Cobblepot reverts to his master plan: to abduct and murder all the first-born sons of Gotham City using information he acquired from the Hall of Records. At a ball hosted by Shreck in which Bruce and Selina meet and accidentally discover their dual identities, the Penguin makes an explosive entrance and announces his plan, with Shreck's son, Chip, to be the first victim. Shreck insists on being taken instead, and the Penguin reluctantly agrees. In the mean time, Batman stops the Penguin's men from kidnapping the children and learns of the Penguin's sewer hideout. Angered at being foiled once again, the Penguin plans now to instead destroy Gotham completely using his penguins to fire missiles into the heart of the city, but Batman, with help from his butler Alfred (Michael Gough), jams the penguins' communicators and makes them return to the sewers.

The Penguin attempts to flee from the sewer through the zoo, but Batman catches up with him and they fight until Batman tricks him into firing all the penguins' missiles at the abandoned zoo. In the fray, the Penguin is attacked by bats that were hidden inside Batman's watercraft and falls through the glass ceiling, plummeting into the toxic waste filled moat which he planned to drown Gotham's children in. Shreck, meanwhile, escapes but is ambushed by Catwoman. Batman intervenes by removing his mask to talk Catwoman out of her desire for vengeance, but although she claims that she loves him, she refuses to listen. Shreck pulls out a gun and shoots Batman, then shoots Catwoman, but continues to shoot at her three more times since she does not fall from the wounds. Claiming she has two lives left, she ignites an electrical surge that kills Shreck and destroys the giant air-conditioning/cooling system within the lair. Batman, who was wearing body armor, tries to find Selina's body but only finds Max Shreck's charred corpse. A dying Penguin emerges from the toxic sludge and tries to shoot Batman from behind, but picks up the wrong umbrella. With his last few breaths he declares that he thirsts for some ice water, then collapses and dies. Six large emperor penguins gather around him to form what seems like a funeral procession, pushing his body into the water.

On the way back home, Bruce sees Catwoman's shadow in an alley and looks for her, but only finds her cat. He subsequently takes the cat home with him, wishing Alfred a Merry Christmas. In the distance, the Bat-Signal lights up in the night sky and Catwoman's silhouette is seen proudly glaring up towards the glowing emblem, as if to taunt Batman once again.
